Kate Bell grew up in the woods of northern Michigan. She holds a Bachelor's degree with high honors in Studio Art from Cedarville University in Ohio, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with highest honors in jewelry and Metalsmithing from Eastern Michigan University.
Kate is currently an MFA candidate at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. In her first year of graduate study at RISD, she has been investigating her interests in empathy, nurturing, relationships between object and person, and the compulsive nature of caring. Departing from her background in traditional metal work and utilizing traditional domestic craft techniques like hand knitting and sewing, her work most recent work invites a sentimental connection with the viewer and wearer as it actively investigates answers to questions surrounding the nature of care.
